“Here is public German TV with the daily news…” as an App!

*Bong* And there it is at last! The Daily News App was first announced about a year ago and attracted enormous criticism from all sides – especially from well-known publishing houses. Now a complete range of Daily News Apps are available in the App stores and markets. Complete, because now it is not only available for iPhone users to celebrate, but also for users of Android and Blackberry.

This short video (in German) describes what the App can do. And that is quite a lot:

The focus is clearly on video output. The look and feel is well-structured, interactive, quick and simple. In short, it’s the best news application I have ever seen. And it comes for free, which is another reason why no smart-phone user will be able to resist downloading it.

iPad on a stick

Revolutionary use of an iPad… In Lithuania recently, a resourceful demonstrator used his upright instead of on his lap: mounted on a pole and fitted out for all weathers. I wonder when we’ll see it used this way in Germany.

#FP: Urban Outfitters soon in Berlin too!

Yippee – the time is come at last. As of July next year there will also be an Urban Outfitters store in Berlin! This brings back memories of my year in Austin, Texas, when I made a pilgrimage to their shopping-mecca at least once a month.

Near to Hackescher Markt in Weinmeisterstrasse there will soon be cool outfits from labels like Acne, Dico Copenhagen and Sessun. Admittedly, with a floor space of 600 square meters, the Berlin branch is only half the size of their shop in Hamburg.

If you can’t wait for it to open, take a look at their online shop: http://www.urbanoutfitters.de/.

#FP: The Astra Santa Claus

The Astra beer brand has developed a true cult status in recent years. A lot of the success of this is thanks to the witty posters designed by Hamburg advertising agency Philipp und Keuntje. The Hamburger in us all knows precisely what they are about. For the shopping days leading up to Christmas, their latest ad is the anti-Christmas-stress Santa Claus. Anyone near to a bus stop in Hamburg can’t avoid spotting him. He is trailer-trashy, provocative and forthright, with no patience for tacky pre-Christmas sentiments. Fans of Astra can order the poster on the internet direct: https://www.brandmerchandising.de/astra/index.php/cat/c12_2010.html.
